Wrapping up the Holiday Classes

Hello Food Lovers and In the Dough readers,

My name is Omar, and I’ll be coordinating Brasserie Bread’s training school and social media while Mei excites her taste-buds with the breads and cheeses of Europe.

Have fun boss!

Four weeks of Brasserie Bread saw me (kind of) getting into rhythm of this new world, that danced to the beat of soft clicking keyboards, leapt with steadfast phone calls and the smell of freshly baked bread wafting through the office.

To say that I was unprepared to witness a Kid’s Baking Class for the first time would be an understatement.

My Berroca kicked in around 10am as I moonwalked my way across the flour-ey floors of the bakery. I swear the Jackson 5 must have picked up their smooth moves from baking bread.

Pulling back the plastic curtain that led to our workshop room, I was deafened by a sound so unimaginable and terrifying it often accompanies my nightmares.

It was a thousand seagulls squabbling for my french fries.

It was me stumbling into a Metallica concert without ear muffs.

It was Braveheart and his army screaming for blood.

No. It was kids… BAKING.

Brasserie Bread’s Winter Holiday Program came to a close on Friday the 16th of July. For two weeks the bakery was filled with children squealing with excitement as they baked a vast array of delicious treats… including breadsticks, coconut teacakes, apple honey bread, scones, pizza, cookies and many more.

Standing ovation to our Brasserie Bread trainer, Yudha or Yoda, for running a baking class with two handfuls of (sugar-high?) kids, but at the same time reveling in the enthusiasm displayed by each participant.

At one point, Yoda instructed one class to flatten their dough in order to make pizza. And the kids did a great job – cave man style. If the dough had a pulse I would have been weepy all afternoon.

But on the face of every child was a look of pure joy. It’s hard not to get excited over baking bread.

The Winter Holiday Program was booked solid – the Brasserie Bread training school is now padding the class wait list for the September/October school holidays.

Have a great week everyone!

Omar
