Crabapple Kitchen, Hawthorn

Crabapple Kitchen has opened its doors on busy Glenferrie Road in Hawthorn where patrons were craving something more…and something more they have definitely managed to deliver. Owner Greg Feck composed the menu based around a passion for travel and food, gaining most of his inspiration from the French and Italian countryside.

The fit out stays true to that theme and steers away from what has become the traditional Melbourne theme of rustic earthy tones and gone for a more traditional provincial style, with exposed brick walls, white wooden chairs, and a wall covered with little white picture frames reflecting on moments passed, perhaps as one would do under a crabapple tree…

For coffee they have chosen to use Campos and they pour a consistently perfect cup every time. Whilst sitting enjoying my latte Greg whipped up a smashed avocado dish with soft Meredith Dairy fetta, fresh chilli, lemon, mint and avocado oil served on top of our Olive & Rosemary toast…simple yet divine. And the use of the olive bread really ensures the dish stands out from smashed avocado dishes being served on every corner café.

The team here also uses our organic white sourdough and our quinoa, soy and linseed bread to complement many of their various breakfast dishes, including a vegetarian or carnivorous big breakfast. Or for the more simple tastes our date, fig, apricot and walnut bread is on offer for your toast morning fix.

The team at Crabapple set out to deliver an all-day eatery focusing on using Victoria’s best local produce that would transport people out of their busy schedule and give them a little haven where they can relax and unwind as soon as they walk through door. Greeted with a smile, great service and consistently amazing food and coffee every time, I would say they have definitely achieved what they set out to do, and we at Brasserie Bread Melbourne are proud to be a part of it.
