Public Espresso, Bondi Junction

A year ago Public Espresso opened at Bondi Junction, aiming to bring a health-focused cafe to the area. Owners Chris Minas and George Confos are sticklers for serving food that’s all about quality and taste. They knew the suburb needed something that was different from the rest. So they opened Public Espresso at the Bronte Road entrance of Westfield shopping centre.

The name of the cafe hinges on the concept that this is a cafe for the public. It’s not Chris and George’s cafe, it’s your cafe. There’s free wifi, there’s a friendly openness in the design and there’s background music that doesn’t interfere with your heart-to-heart conversations.

Chris handpicked the staff and is proud of how welcoming they are. He also hired chef Sanja who he knew was the best of the best. The food at Public Espresso is focused on fresh, high quality produce that can even be seen through the glass window of the kitchen.

The all day breakfast menu is peppered with signature dishes like acai bowls, breakfast bruschetta and a healthy omelette. The breakfast bruschetta is a delightful plate of avocado, Spanish onion, cherry tomatoes, poached eggs, basil on Brasserie Bread sourdough toast. As for the omelette, it combines healthy ingredients of kale, quinoa, asparagus, smoked salmon, chia seeds and dill creme fraiche. It’s served with toasted Brasserie Bread quinoa & soya sourdough.

Once lunchtime comes around, the menu is all about fresh salads and wholesome sandwiches. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, Brasserie Bread’s entire range of cakes is also available.

Coffee is by Di Gabriel, but keeping to the healthy theme means there are also fresh juices and protein shakes available.
