Bonjour, it’s Bastille Day!

Last Wednesday marked Bastille Day, and with it, our fourth bread event, or Bakery Tweetup.  This time, Coffee Trails was our partner-in-crime. Keeping with tradition, we switched venues from Belmore Park to this lovely Cafe at the last minute thanks to the ominous weather report of rain, rain, and more rain! The code word was ‘Bonjour’, which had to be belted out to the barista while buying your coffee, thus entitling the individual to their ham-and-cheesy treasure. While our online Breadheads were well-aware of this, caffeined-up office workers were encouraged to hop online to find the code word before the croissants ran out. 40 croissants au jambon fromage along with 20 of the tomato and cheese variety found their way into the trusty BB Caddy, where we zipped down to Central Station to set up for the event that ran from 10am – 11.30am.

The crowd varied from our usual Bakery supporters, to online fans and followers on Twitter, to friendly office workers who found themselves playing the game of ‘find the codeword’ to score their free croissant, to tourists who stopped by for a mid-morning breakfast of coffee and a pleasant surprise of croissants, French mountain bread and jam.

We also ran a favourite Fan photo competition of our Bastille Day bread event, where 5 lucky photographers won a Baking Workshop Gift Certificate valued at $130, and 1 month of free coffee  at Coffee Trails for their best uploaded photos!

Wow, have we been flat-out or have we been flat-out?! It has been an all-too-busy two months of managing the post-Masterchef madness. School Holiday Baking is now over again for another month, with September and October peeking around the corner and the ever-growing waitlist of parents and baking-crazy kids. We’ve even managed to bring on another Training School and Marketing mastermind, Omar – who will be managing our tweets, blog and all general relations with EVERYONE in and around the Bakery for the time being. Say hi to Omar!

As for me, I will be making my way to Europe this Thursday for a beautiful summer of checking out age-old artisan bakeries, patisseries and general fooding around (Paris here I come!) Yup that’s right, Poilane watch out – I’m coming for your bread and bakery!

Au revoir, catch you in September
