Gelato Messina’s Bread & Butter Pud for Good

About a week ago the lovely people at OzHarvest approached us at Brasserie Bread to donate surplus brioche and bread for a special Gelato Messina flavour. We always love being a part of OzHarvest’s initiatives, so we scrambled around every day to pack up bread and brioche that would have otherwise gone to waste. This rescued bread and brioche was made into a bread and butter pudding that’s smashed into the new gelato flavour.

The awesome team at Messina used saved ingredients from OzHarvest for this new flavour called “Bread & Butter Pud for Good”. It’s a spiced citrus custard gelato, smashed with bread and butter pudding available from today for a limited time!

The new Messina flavour is a part of Virgin Mobile’s #mealforameal campaign, which is turning food photos on social media into real meals for those in need. The idea is that you snap a picture of your meal (such as the new Messina flavour), share it on social media with the hastag #mealforameal. For every hashtagged pic, Virgin Mobile will donate a meal to OzHarvest.

“We are on a mission to eliminate hunger and food waste simultaneously and now you can help us do this simply by remembering one simple hashtag. So, next time you feel the impulse to snap that organic grass fed wagyu burger, tag it #mealforameal so Virgin Mobile can help us turn it into a real meal for someone in need,” Ronni Kahn, founder and CEO of OzHarvest explains.

New Virgin Mobile research has shown that on average, Aussies are accessing social media apps through their smartphones for 14 hours a week. That’s 26 days a year spent posting, tagging, liking, commenting and sharing. The research also showed that food pictures are the second most common type of photo taken by Australians and third most common to be seen on social media news feeds (behind location shots and selfies) with seven in ten Australians admitting they have posted a food picture on their social channels.

We love how the team at OzHarvest can reach the people who really need help. At Brasserie Bread we don’t want great, nutritious food going to waste. This new #mealforameal initiative is already gaining a lot of traction on social media – we hope OzHarvest and Virgin Mobile can reach their target of 400,000 hashtagged meals.

So now all that’s left to do is to get yourself to Gelato Messina as soon as possible, order a “Bread & Butter Pud for Good” and get hashtagging!
