At Brasserie Bread we’re committed to giving back to our local community. Whether it’s our free kids classes that we hold every Saturday or supporting local schools at events, we’re devoted to teaching kids how to make healthy food choices.
Chifley Public School
This week we showed our support for the official opening of the sustainable gardens at Chifley Public School, including their Bush Tucker garden and Vegetable garden. The gardens have been an important and ongoing project for the school to enrich the students’ curriculum.
From planting seeds to cooking with the vegetables and herbs in the garden, the kids are learning about the benefits of good, healthy produce. This philosophy is close to our hearts at Brasserie Bread, so we invited a handful of Chifley Public School students to our bakery in the early morning of the official garden opening.
Breaducating and Supporting
Five kids from Chifley Public School with their teachers and principal Louise Stone visited our bakery at 7.30am to bake herb focaccias using fresh herbs from their school garden. Fresh rosemary and chives were sprinkled on top of the focaccias that the kids hand-shaped. After a delicious breakfast at the Brasserie Bread cafe, the kids and teachers returned to their school, and we brought over their herb focaccias for morning tea, along with a selection of our pastries.
Garden Opening Assembly & Morning Tea
The morning assembly at the school included a smoking ceremony performed by Dean Kelly from National Parks and Wildlife, a Didgeridoo performance by Brenden Moore, Aboriginal Education Officer from Community Greening, a performance by the school choir, followed by morning tea featuring goodies from the gardens.
We handed out herb focaccias and pastries with the help from the students. It was heartwarming to see the kids give out bread that they had baked, exclaiming ‘we baked this with our own hands!’
